A bit complicated, that one. I won't just copy and paste it from Wikipedia without explaining where I got it from, because I am not a plagiarist like the person above. *glares at them for a moment* Anyway, here it is in my own words, with a link to Wiki:

France was a monarchy until the French Revolution of 1789. Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette (ever heard of her?) lost their heads, and Napoleon took control of the country, and eventually made it an Empire.

Napoleon's final defeat came in 1815 at the Battle of Waterloo, and monarchy reared its ugly head again, but with new limitations, basically, until 1848.

France has been a democracy since then, though it went through many different stages.

So, France was a monarchy until 1789, became an Empire for a while, returned to a monarchy from 1815 until 1848, and then became a republic. So when France stopped being a monarchy is a bit complicated, depending on what answer you are going for!

Although the Legislative Assembly governed France under a Constitutional Monarchy after the fall of the Royal Family from 1791, it was actually on the 22nd September 1792 when France was declared a Republic by the National Convention that officially ended the Monarchy era in France.
