Lincoln was the greatest president. He lead our country through its greatest trial by far. He did not want to end slavery in the beginning but he knew by the mid point of the war that it was the only way to preserve the union. He was not afraid to do things that were unpopular but he was still willing to listen to the concerns of the people.
Regan, brought about the end of the cold war and saved America from its most powerful enemy since the British during the time of the Revolution.
FDR lead us through WWII but he also instigated many of the policies that are now putting our country into so much debt (welfare, social security).
Andrew Jackson made the US what it truly is, a country of the people, by the people and for the people. He was the first real people's president (Lincoln was the second). He was not part of the elite. He was a regular citizen who worked hard and fought hard.

George Washington established the standards and traditions for presidents that followed for many years.
While this is not a direct result of Abraham Lincoln's policies or desires, his presidency ultimately led to a new way of governing the country. His presidency also began the process of freeing slaves and elevating former slaves' legal status.
Woodrow Wilson campaigned for changes that ultimately led to changing our pure republic into a more democratic form of government (i.e. all major government representatives are elected by the general populace) and laid the foundations for entitlements and the income tax.
Franklin D. Roosevelt changed our government into a socialist democracy (some call it a liberal democracy) where, if the people think some law is good or right, then the constitutionality of the law doesn't really matter and the courts will uphold the law (this time period helped cement the income tax, public education, and welfare programs). It was during this time that the concept of a "living constitution" took foot-hold in the general population.
