Because some boys are not trust worthy and through Internet they cannot make out whether a particular boy belongs to that category or not. Let them verify your credentials first. Then they will disclose to the extent they feel comfortable with. That's their prerogative.

Girls do not disclose their indentity because boys are more abusive then girls and so girls with the fear of being abused or being harassed do so.

because when you see someone in person you get a feeling from them and even though they maybe lieing it's easier to spot in person then over the internet or even phone.
