i have a hamster. he has a metal cage on top of his tank to give him more space to roam. he has plenty of things to chew on. he has two wooden sticks that were made for chewing (bought them at a pet store) and even a big flavored log for him to crawl through and chew on...its made from alfalfa and honey which is also in his food so we figured he would go NUTS over it...but no. he chews the bars on his cage and avoids the log...and the sticks. when he chews on the bars the noise is really loud and we have to take it off the tank and put the tank lid on so we can sleep at night. is there any way to stop him from chewing on the metal and get him to chew on the log and all that other stuff we gave him? im not only annoyed with the noise, but im afraid he is going to hurt himself. there is no other room his cage can go in.

he has a cage that is made specificly to fit on top of the aquarium we already had for him. we dont have a lot of space for him to run around in his little ball that we have for him, so we gave him more space to run around in his tank by putting the cage on top of it. he has plenty to chew on, a couple of sticks, and this alfalfa and honey log...he just chews on the bars instead

have you got a wheel? If not I suggest you get him one because hamsters are meant to travel verry far at night I'm not too sure about how far but its quite a distance for a tiny little hamster to travel. My hamster does this too but every time she did it I said No in a sharp tone and she would stop look at me and run into her tunnel, eventually she learned to not bite the bars, I also suggest you play with him more when he is active so that he is worn out or give him some of his fave food stuffed inside some cardboard scrunch it up and then rub some raspberry on it so he will go for it. I'm not sure if it will work for him but it worked for my hamster ;)
