sri lanka lacks just one thing..big hitter slow down in the order..all other teams that wud seem like qualifying to the semifinals(ie new zealand, south africa, and definitely australia) have big hitter low down the order in order to get quick valuable runs in the last 10 overs or so. sri lanka are lacking this. vaas is the all rounder but he doesnt always deliver. other teams got:
new zealand- brendon mccallum,james franklyn,vettori
south africa- boucher,gibbs,pollock
australia- symonds

this is gonna be a decisive factor for sri lanka i belive

It does not matter whether you have or not Sri Lankans have done well so far in this world cup. Sri Lankans have the aggressive opening that will apart any attack with a very high strike rate. then what is required is to milk the ball to the gaps for singles to maintain the required run rate. If you try to pinch hit or try to be very aggressive low down the order tendency is there that you will lose the wickets then the run rate will drop.
But I would like to see Chamara Silva playing much better & also they are missing kapugedara.:

SL team may not have pinch hitters low down in the batting order.

But to compensate they have pinch hitters at the top and the middle. Veteran Sanath Jayasooriya and Upul Tharanga operate at the top while Chamara Silva and Chaminda Vaas operate from the middle.

Sri Lankan's batting style is quite different from that of the other teams and cannot compare with others either.

Whether they have or do not have pinch hitters the fact remains that the team delivers. With 4 players with WC batting average of above 50 and 6 players with a strike rate of above 80 they have a better batting line-up. In the bowling department, 4 bowlers have average of less than 20 and 5 with econ rate of less than 4. Its a well balanced team. So do they need pinch-hitters?

So far they have lost only one match and as it stands now will reach the semi finals.

You got it right. We sri lankans do not have that pinch hitters.Dilshan blossomed a bit in the west indies match there are no consistent hitters in the likes of hussey and symonds.Yep it will be a big disadvantage to us specially when we need to chase big scores.

I found Chamara kapugedara as a potential pinch hitter who also can score sensibly but unfortuantely Ashantha De Mel our chief selector dropped him and i dont know why.

Dilshan, Arnold and Vaaz are pinch hitters and are capable of scoring quick runs and they have done so on many occasions..
