XP is the operating system I got from this person in PMs.

To set your network connection to DHCP (is what I'm guessing will fix your problem):

Click the Start button, and select Control Panel.
Click the Network and Internet Connections link.
Click the Network Connections link.
Right-click your local area connection, and select Properties.
Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Click the Properties button.
Select the Obtain an IP Address Automatically option.
Select the Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically option.
Click the Advanced button.
Select the WINS tab.
Select the Default: Use NetBIOS Setting from the DHCP Server... option.
Click OK.
In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, click OK.
Click the Close button.
Restart your computer.

OK, I will explain this assuming you run Windows Xp.

First, go to start.

Then, go to control panal.

Go to network and internet connections.

Choose "set up or change your home or small office network."

Click next,

click next again,

choose the second bubble" this computer connects to the internet through a residential gateway or another computer on my network."

click next 3 times,

if you only have one printer, shoose the first option.

choose the last option to do this on your moms computer.

this should connect your computers, hope this helps:)

I need to know a few things first. Your computer is a what? PC or Mac? It's different for each and I can help for either one. But there is a way to do it. Even with a Mac and a PC together.

Since you didn't say why they wouldn't connect your computer when they did your Mom's, the answer will have to come from the provider of service.
