Oh Hell NO! Do NOT give up your guns. You will need them to fight off the government.

Why stop with guns? Why not knives? Why not automobiles after all they kill people too.

And yes Evan, I should be allowed to own a grenade launcher. I can do just as much (or more) damage with a 2500 pound SUV and a quart of Tequila as I can with a grenade launcher.

Guns are items of personal property, are they not? And, according to the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and just about every other work on the subject of human rights from the Founding Fathers, is not the right to property one of the most fundamental, inalienable rights endowed to mankind? Restricting that right on the grounds that possession of a gun leads to the risk of another getting injured is in no way justified: the firearm, as an inanimate object, can only cause harm if the user pulls the trigger. Ownership of a gun does not automatically transform one into a lunatic on a killing spree. The choice to pull the trigger is entirely up to the user; besides, banning guns in an effort to curb crime has been proven effective in only a negative degree. You'll notice that Washington, DC, has among the highest crime rates in the country; not to fake a connection here, but many of those crimes are committed with firearms, which are illegal in DC. Banning firearms only works for people who follow the law; there will always be a black market which will thrive in the face of such restrictions, from which criminals may obtain them with malicious intent.

As if logic weren't enough, the Constitution protects us from the government yet again in this case. The entire text of the Second Amendment is as follows: "A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the protection of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." Many construe this to mean that only militias may be in possession of firearms; it doesn't take a linguistical expert to be familiar enough with the tone of the writing to understand that the militia clause and the keep-and-bear-arms clause are entirely separate. At any rate, were not militias private organizations of individuals (that is, until FDR decided they were a bad thing -- his violations of the Constitution are hideous, yet conveniently ignored)? Does that not therefore imply that individuals have a right to keep and bear private (not militia-owned) arms, at the least if they participate in the militia?

Attacking gun ownership is not only un-Constitutional, it is an egregious violation of justice and our natural rights. It does not curtail crime, and in many instances augments it. Leave the guns where they belong, along with everything else in this once-great country: in the hands of the people.

I believe that automatic weapons should be illegal as I can't see any legitimate purpose for their use. Semi-automatic weapons maybe with special permits, like for law enforcement and that sort of thing.

Otherwise I think rifles for hunting and handguns for protection are fine. I do think that if there's a gun in the home, everyone in the home should have training in how to handle a firearm. I think a big part of the reason that there are accidents involving children is that the guns are hidden and so become a forbidden lure to a child. If they were more familiar with the weapon and understood them, I don't think kids would want to play with guns. At least they haven't in my family.

Keep guns legal. Stabbing people is super hard work. jk
Seriously-
I think that it should not be illegal to own guns. It's a constitutional right. Being irresponsible with a gun or using one improperly should be dealt with HARSHLY. I think that people should have mandatory training in order to have a license, and that they should have to keep their guns inaccessible to children. If a gun is in the same house as a child, then the permit for it should be renewed annually until the child is old enough to receive and understand training on the proper use and responsibilities of gun ownership.

Here's the problem with owning a gun in this day & age; Over time- because there are MORE of us, people are living Closer & CLOSER- together. If more & MORE of those people own guns, there will be more & MORE accidental shootings; more & MORE not-so accidental shootings, and more & MORE stolen weapons that end up killing innocent people as well. At WHAT point will there be so MANY guns around us- that those guns will be MORE dangerous to people- than the criminals are??! And can you IMAGINE what the Police will be up against? They'll have to start bringing in heavily armed S.W.A.T. teams- to put down arguments between neighbors shooting it out because somebodys boombox is too loud!!! So I don't know how much longer we can go on- making it legal to own firearms. We may be becoming our OWN worst enemy ...

No it should not be illegal. #1, it's a great sport for responsible people. #2, they will never stop making them so they will always get into the hands of criminals & etc. so we should have the ability to attempt to protect our selves in our own home. I do feel gun crimes should have stiffer penalties to discourange any type of mis-use. #3, doesn't the government control us enough? What's next, they keep our money & give us an allowance? A government by the people for the people. Let's keep it that way.

In the town where I live it is the law that every household shall have a gun and the ammunition to go with it! No one has been hurt or killed because of this and we are more prepared if our country should be invaded. Invasion is much more likely to happen if the invader knows we cannot defend ourselves.

I don't think it should be illegal to own a gun. I do think there should be some sort of test though, like a drivers test...just to make sure the person actually had to pay attention to the right way to own one. Like gun closet safety to keep away from kids. Stuff like that.

no, quite the opposite. every adult w/o a criminal record in america should carry a gun on them. you would have a heck of a lot less crime that way. would you try to rob or rape someone if you knew they may have a gun and could shoot you at any time? i think not

I don't think we need new laws making it illegal to own guns. Instead, we need to enforce the gun laws we already have -- prohibiting felons from having guns, harsh penalties for crimes involving firearms, etc.
