Get the roach motels..those things really work..but make sure your baby don't touch it inside it is sticky...put it where he/she won't see it..

You can bug bomb the place before you move in if you like, but be careful because the bug bombs are toxic and extremely flammable.
They are a few different variations of roach traps you can buy from a hardware store.
You can buy the kind that have a poison that attracts the roaches and they will carry that poison back to their nest, or you can by the roach motels.
I recommend the poison myself.
Just be sure to put whatever you buy where your seven month old can not see it, and keep her out of wherever it is. ( A good place to put the traps is under the kichen sink or in similar places.)

Also, never forget prevention. With a baby it's going to be hard to keep everything super-clean. But at the least, never leave out dirty dishes overnight and wrap up the plastic bags inside cereal boxes. Put the lid back on the peanut butter, stuff like that.

In college I woke up to find a giant sculpture of ants in my kitchen - in the shape of my little table on wheels, electric kettle, a cereal bowl, knife, and electric can opener.

Within 2 days, I had all the ants dead. But it took hours on end and a whole lot of toxic spray in the kitchen with me leaving for a while. With a baby around, you of course won't be able to do that.

Keep it clean, and don't allow open food to lay around. I wouldn't spray if you have a small child in the apt.
