I'm working on a science project for school and I can't remember the difference between a cubic yard and a square yard.

A square yard is a surface area 1 yard by 1 yard. A cubic yard is a volume, 1 yard by 1 yard by 1 yard.

A cubic yard is 3-dimensional, while a square yard is 2-dimensional. You can draw a square on a piece of paper with four lines. If each line were one yard long, that would be a square yard. If you had to put a really big present for someone in a box, and each edge of the box were one yard, the box would be a cubic yard.

Cubic has volume , think of any cube . . .
A square one is flat , just like a sheet of paper, that is 3 feet on each side.
