A rock is a naturally occurring aggregate of minerals and/or mineraloids. The Earth's crust (including the lithosphere) and mantle are formed of rock.Rocks are classified by mineral and chemical composition, by the texture of the constituent particles and by the processes that formed them. These indicators separate rocks into igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. They may also be classified according to grain size, in the case of conglomerates and breccias or in the case of individual stones. The transformation of one rock type to another is described by the geological model called the rock cycle.

Minerals are natural compounds formed through geological processes. The term "mineral" encompasses not only the material's chemical composition, but also the mineral's structure. Minerals range in composition from pure elements and simple salts to very complex silicates with thousands of known forms.

Rocks are, basically, naturally occuring substances from which Minerals are derived or extracted naturally or
manually.

From the geology course I took in 1975:

Well you see rocks eat minerals and because they don't have a bum they can't poo, so the minerals solidify and eventually the rock gets completely full and becomes one big lump of rock poo - which is just a lump of minerals.
