I am being fired because I am pregnant and want to know what I can sue for?

Yes he specifically told me I've done an excellent job and on a personal level he feels bad but on a business level he has to do what he has to do. He also stated that me Dr. appts are getting in the was, which I've only had 3 and the've known about all of them well ahead of time, and that with me going on maternity leave and being a new mom he doesn't see me having time to do the job. (Thats exactly what he said)
Also it would be hard for them to say I wasn't doing my job since they've given me 3 raises since I started in June 06 and they offered to pay for my schooling.

Did they actually say they were firing you for being pregnant? If not them I'm afraid it'll be very hard to prove it. They'll say something like your job performance was poor or they had to downsize for financial reasons. However, if they did admit it then you can sue the pants off of them . It's very illegal. Consult with a lawyer (most give free consultations.) Good luck & I'm sorry this happened to you. :(

Hi, hope you are ok in yourself. If you were working and living in the UK you could sue the employer for discrimination and for unfair dismissal.

You have the right to maternity leave and for your job to be held open for up to 6 months after the leave starts here in the UK.

We also have paternity leave for the male partner post delivery of baby to allow for bonding and support to the mother and baby.

Get legal advice and do all you can to sue the employer. Also see if there is any way to get compensation but not at the expense of your health or the baby,s health.

Good luck Trish

Can you document to a Court that they are intentionally treating you differently than other employees because you are pregnant? This is very difficult to do. If you can, then the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, possibly the Family and Medical Leave Act, possibly some state laws (they would in California), and even possibly an implied contract theory would make this a case an employment lawyer would love to take.

I don't think that pregnancy discrimination should be illegal. Having a child is a lifestyle choice, it's something you plan. Why should an employer have to support your lifestyle decisions? Being pregnant is not a disability or an illness. It is not something that just happens out of the blue and there's nothing you can do aout it. While you're out having your child, everyone else in the office has to do your work on top of theirs. How is that fair to them? You were hired to be in the office every day, and if you can't do that job anymore, they should be able to find someone who can.

It depends on the size of your company. The rules are different for companies with fewer than 50 employees. But otherwise, you need to consult a lawyer to determine your options - because chances are you have some.

Yes, I urge you to consult the lawyer and see if you have a strong case. The lawyer who is specialized in this case will be able to tell you.He or she will not charge for a first consultation. In my opinion, you can sue for emotional and physical pain he had caused you.Sorry you have to go through this road.I urge you to fight and it is not right to let someone takes advantage of you. Good luck, meanwhile, you can file a complaint with the labor board in your state against your boss and his company.

Is that the official reason?
Are you in a right to work state?
Did you apply for maternity leave?
The question is more complicated than the one you asked.

The problem is the company is not likely to admit to it being because you are pregnant. They will claim it's something else for example performance reasons.

Getting fired because you are pregnant is not legal.Your boss would have to admit that is the reason for your dismissal. The most you would get is unemployment compensation

It definately depends on whether you are in a "right to work" state. That will ultimately give you your answer. If you are, then they don't have to have a reason to fire you. Sorry
