Think of it as if a solipsist is a schizophrenic who is aware of their disease. They firmly believe that everything they encounter is a product of their own mind. This includes not only people with whom they might converse with, thinking they are in effect carrying on an internal conversation wherein half of the material is supplied by the subconscious. But also the elements of a physical reality that gives their thoughts a 4 dimensional field to play out in. The fact that subsets of information contained within this reality go counter to their belief is only apparent to outsiders. To the person suffering from solipsism, there is no contradiction simply because they feel they are the ones responsible for creating the paradigm.

Don't you just love it when people read a great question, and then think that it must be the total focus of the askers life. It can't be that it's a theory that sounds interesting to the asker. Lots of "Harry highschool" people out there. So what's my opinion. Well, since This question was soooo over my head and I had to look it up before I even considered answering it. I kind of agree with Dr. Y. I think a Solipsist would not even stop to consider evidence. I mean it seems this theory is like quantum leaps past Rene Descartes' famous quote.

I do not think it can. Would not solipsism argue that you cannot know for certain that the Earth even exists, or any material world, other than perhaps our physical mind.
(If the solipsist accepts that the mind goes through reasoning processes, then it is only possible to do so with some mental machinery which can perform such reasoning. Am I way off on this????)

It's a crazy question. By its very definition, it is egoism, and self-absorption. I think the way you mean it is; Why do humans think, in all their wisdom and intelligence, that we can define our beginnings, and surroundings in some universal dialog. We know that prime numbers are a naturally occurring phenomenon, as well as counting structure, however the most complex ideas of creation are still given to extreme edges of interpretation. Which, according to the solipsist, would only serve a very self serving definition. They would say that only the self can truly exist, and that nothing else can logically be proven. Kind of lame if you ask me. It would not be the goal of the solipsist to define the existence of their surroundings, just interpret the images our surroundings produce within their own mind.

You don't understand... solipsists don't explain anything.
When you start with the assumption that everything not in your head is a lie, then there's really nothing that can be done to refute that. Geological evidence? Geology doesn't exist! How could it? Rocks do not exist.
I solve problems with solipsists in exactly the same way. I believe that everything in the universe is real EXCEPT solipsists. Heh.

We have used evrything from nature from the very beginning, since we had no choice.Actually even those early people that weren't too philosophical (that's kind of hard to do when you are starving) are the first empiricists, and they didn't even know it, obviously, lol
I wish you would have elaborated more on the title of this message and it's source.
