If you ask a question regarding 'cichlids' without further details on species, on any subject at all, you won't get a good answer due to how different one cichlid can be from another. In the future for your posts you should really start saying what species you have, rather then just 'cichlids'.
Cichlids are mainly made up of mouthbrooders and substrate spawners. Courting rituals will differ - sometimes its the male doing a courting 'dance' for the female by swimming funny around her and/or vibrating his body, or it can come down to actually mock fights, with the male and female liplocking and seeming to go at it. Anyway, tell us what species and you'll get a real answer.

Cichlids take part in a "mating dance" where the male and female circle each other slowly while vibration. The female releases the eggs and the male releases the sperm over the eggs and the female picks the eggs up in her mouth, where she keeps and cares for the fry for about 2+ weeks. These are called mouthbrooders.
All cichlids take part in this mating dance, but there are some cichlids who lay their eggs on plant leafs, in caves, or in dug pits.
Good luck with your fish!

Many ways,Grasshopper, many ways. Let's see there are mouth brooders, pit diggers that cover the eggs, pit diggers that don't cover the eggs, some lay neat rows of eggs on carefully cleaned rock or plants, some eggs are cared for by both parents, some by only one, some scatter their eggs in mid-water and never see them again, this is only a pitifully small bit of the true answer to your question, and would require several doctoral thesis's to complete. So be careful what you ask, someone may answer. To give you the specific answer that you seek we would need to know the species.---------Good luck in your search.----PeeTee
