Usually I get downthumbed for my responses about this topic.
Yes, it has already started with a deadly combination: the entertainment industry feeding UTTER GARBAGE on MTV and all the rest of the channels, and the second part of the perfect storm is that parents are working two jobs, and just buying kids whatever they want, and letting them watch the garbage on tv even at a young age.
Grade inflation is another component actually. All kids want A's so they can go to a good college, and the parents whine when they don't get A's. They whine to the principal, who in turn may change the grade behind the back of the teacher to appease the parents. Then the kids go to college, can't do a thing right, drop out, and don't contribute to society.
Oh, don't forget the high salaries that go to entertainers and sports stars.
It's just like the Roman fall. America will slowly descend into a festering pot of drugs, sex, and laziness. All our jobs will go overseas, the economy will fail, etc. This will all happen as social security goes bankrupt and oil becomes more scarce, so prices go up and people can't commute to their jobs, nor sell their houses outside of the city because nobody wants to live far from a city.

We will sort of bounce for a while when we fall cause we are such a fat country, then we will suffer a heart attack.
Maybe....just maybe, if the Bush administration doesn't alienate the rest of the world in the next two years we will get a heart transplant and a second chance at being a great innovative leader...but that is a big maybe with a complacent population and an idiot in office.

I think Lincoln said something like this, America will only fall from within. So basically the US will only fall if the citizens cannot keep it together, no outside forces will conquer the US unless the citizens destroy it first. Since Americans are very proud I find this pretty impossible, but possible if we let little things such as our political parties get in the way and things like red and blue states.

The most dangerous enemy tends to come from within. The US is in a debt it will not lose anytime soon, the country prints money to buy petroleum (oil) and other goods. The US fights wars abroad that are unpopular, and the country are getting increasingly unpopular world-wide. The downfall of any nation that expands beyond its limits, is the result of "growing pains" such as a discontent home public, rivaling powers cutting off trade and the dwindling of fresh water reservoirs and food (lack of resources), and the formation of groups within society that fight each other. The danger of a strongly polarised nation is the effects of any disagreement or lack of cooperation between the groups.

What one does to win, they must continue to do to ensure victory.
Our own waivering as a nation will bring us down if anything.
Look at the Middle east. If they would back up for a min. and look at the big picture. They could ban together and become the strongest part of the world and would be unstoppable. However, their ideals keep them segregated.
United we stand, Divided we fall. Is the only thing we need to understand.

We wont fall as a nation. We'll just reinvent ourselves like every other post industrial nation. Just wait, China will have to do the same, just like Japan and Germany, and eventually Russia, just like England, Holland and France did before us.
The only exception was Spain. It had fallen a long time ago, before the industrial revolution.

There are no crystal balls to gaze in to predict the future there is no way to know.
I would say that like all great empires, the US will eventually fall or be divided. The biggest threats are not from outside, but from within and eventually some groups will want to go their separate ways.

What makes you think that it will fall? We have a pretty stable government (even WITH all of the bickering and fighting in Washington) and as such it is a strong government. If it gets too far out of sorts.. the people WILL vote to put it right.. if they can find someone willing to take office.

i pray it doesn't...because the rest of the world will follow very quickly..
but from a biblical point of view...the US will fall after the rapture of the church..when the Christians are taken out of this country..then the Anti-Christ will take control and the US will fall . that will signal the rise of the one world government..when the kings of the earth will descend upon Israel and be defeated by the hand of God..the battle of Armageddon

We will fall from our politicians' addiction to entitlements and buying votes.
The costs of Social Security (a.k.a., govt.-sponsored Ponzi Scheme), Medicaid and Medicare will cripple us financially Politicians have done nothing to reduce spending and our country will soon pay very dearly for their mishandling of our country's finances.
Politicians and responsible managing of money do not, and never will. go together. Give it to them and they will find a way to spend it. The only time the deficit decreases is when the revenues come in faster than they expected. When times are good and revenues flow, they spend like crazy, when things turn bad, they borrow for future generations to pay the debt. Never any cuts in spending, never any sign of fiscal responsibility.
Our despicable Congress and the games of Washington D.C. (spending indiscriminately) will soon bring us to our knees as a country.
