My mother-in-law has some coins that she inherited from her father, and has asked me to check into their value and perhaps sell them. I'm getting fairly good advice on their value, but when I sell them, I will need to post a picture of them.

How does one take a picture of a coin? I've seen many images on eBay and collector sites, but I'm not a great photographer and don't have really good equipment.

DUH! Scanner, Right! Anyone want to see some incredibly clear images of a 1914-D Indian Head Quarter Eagle?

Try using a scanner. Scanners are great for "photographing" small objects such as a coin. Needs to be a fairly high quality one for good color.

To do this right, you need a macro lense and a copy stand with proper lighting.

An easier way to do this is to use a regular scanner for your PC. All of the above problems are taken care of and scanners are very inexpensive.

with a digital camera on zoom lense, this is the best picture you will get and it will show the actual detail of the coin you can buy a digital camera at office max for cheaper than retail stores. thats where i got mine and they were the cheapest i went ton different stores looking for the best price.

Contact a professional photographer who has both the equipment and the skills. Pay a small fee and have it done right.
