I guess it symbolized his hope that he would someday get off the island and be able to deliver it.

I think because the box was different because of the wings drawing on it. He sort of held it sacred because it was individualized and more personal. He wanted some mystery in his life to remain. One line he wouldn't cross.

Even a sat phone needs to be charged bfore working, no?

I kinda think its because...He used that box for hope like a reason to stay alive and make it home.Then he could deliver it..Also,he used the idea of the wings when he left the island.. Remember when he delivered it he left a note, saying something like it saved his life..Haven't seen it in awhile, but I think it was something like that..

i think it was the only one he didnt open and wanted to return it, maybe it was fate so he could find the right woman at the end. I watched it again this weekend,lol.

in the book a satelite telephone was supposed to be in that box,lol =)

The box represented hope.I think he thought if he didn't open it,that one day he would be able to deliver it.
