This is the only modern subculture that I do not understand. "Indie" is a style of music/movies/art that has bred its own fashion and lifestyle that is supposedly "independent" from everything else.
However, I know quite a few "indie scenesters", and all of them wear the SAME EXACT CLOTHES, and listen to the SAME EXACT MUSIC.
How can one be "independent" when they follow a trend?

They're probably like the "nonconformists" of the 70's. There were a whole group of nonconformists who conformed to their own version of nonconformity. In other words, they were all alike.

Every generation has its beatniks, nonconconformists, and indies, I guess... Against their will, they fulfill the saying, "The more things change, the more the they stay the same."
