It is in a horizontal position because it has wires in it to hold it up. You can see clearly that the astronauts bent the wires when they erected.
Also, in the video, you can see that the only time the flag moves is when the astronauts shake the pole.
1) Twelve 12 American astronauts have walked on the moon.
Apollo 11: Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin
Apollo 12: Pete Conrad & Alan Bean
Apollo 13: << failed to land on the moon >>
Apollo 14: Alan Shepard & Edgar (Ed) Mitchell
Apollo 15: David Scott & James Irwin
Apollo 16: John Young & Charles Duke
Apollo 17: Eugene (Gene) Cernan & Harrison Schmidt
2) Why haven't we been back?
a) American astronauts visited the moon on six occasions.
b) The "moon race" was an extension of the cold war. It was mostly about national prestige. We got there first and achieved our primary objective. There was some good science: surveys, measurements, sample collection. But it was mostly about being there first. Once we achieved our primary objective, there was no political will to go back. There still isn't. Perhaps, if we discover He3 or something else valuable, there will be.
c) I used to travel to Crested Butte, Colorado every year to ski. Because I don't go anymore, does it mean that I never went?
3) What about the Van Allen radiation belts? Wouldn't it have killed the astronauts?
The existence of the Van Allen radiation belts postulated in the 1940s by Nicholas Christofilos. Their existence was confirmed in *1958* by the Explorer I satellite launched by the USA.
The radiation in the Van Allen radiation belts is not particularly strong. You would have to hang out there for a week or so in order to get radiation sickness. And, because the radiation is not particularly strong, a few millimeters of metal is all that is required for protection. "An object satellite shielded by 3 mm of aluminum will receive about 2500 rem (25 Sv) per *year*."
"In practice, Apollo astronauts who travelled to the moon spent very little time in the belts and received a harmless dose. [6]. Nevertheless NASA deliberately timed Apollo launches, and used lunar transfer orbits that only skirted the edge of the belt over the equator to minimise the radiation." When the astronauts returned to Earth, their dosimeters showed that they had received about as much radiation as a couple of medical X-rays.
4) The U.S. government scammed everyone?
In 1972, there was a politically motivated burglary of a hotel room in the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. There were only about six or eight people who knew about it. However, those people, including Richard M. Nixon, the President of the United States, failed to keep that burglary a secret. It exploded into a scandal that drove the President and a number of others from office.
If six or eight people couldn't keep a hotel room burglary a secret, then how could literally thousands of people could have kept their mouths shut about six faked moon landings? Not just one moon landing, but six of them!
5) What about the USSR?
Even if NASA and other government agencies could have faked the six moon landings well enough to fool the general public, they could NOT have fooled the space agency or military intelligence types in the USSR. The Soviets were just dying to beat us. If the landings were faked, the Soviets would have re-engineered their N-1 booster and landed on the moon just to prove what liars Americans are. Why didn't they? Because the landings were real and the Soviets knew it.
6) Why does the flag shake? Where are the stars? Who took the video of Neil Armstrong?
Take a look at the first two websites listed below. They deal well with all of the technical questions.
7) Finally, please tell us what you would accept as definitive evidence that the six moon landings were real. Is there anything?

The flag is actually in a vertical position, not horizontal. This is because they stuck it into the ground. It has nothing to do with atmosphere. There is still gravity and friction on the moon.
The flag on the moon does not blow back and forth. The men who put the flag there had to take it out of a compartment where the flag was compacted, so it looks as if the flag is blowing in the wind, but it's not. It is held up with wire.

The flag is not cloth, it is a plastic, with a spar along the top edge to keep it horizontal so you can identify it as the American flag.
What you see as blowing is the flag ossilating because it was jarred. The pole is flexible, like a spring. When it bent, it sprung back, causing the whole flag (pole and all) to sway. Had there been air, it would have reduced this effect.
Also, if thrust from a rocket nozzle were to hit the flag, it would flap, as the would be a breeze.
Also, the dust kicked up by moonwalking astronauts was kicked up, not blown, and each particle would follow Newton's laws, and have a ballistic arc. Dust floats on air, which is why this doesn't happen on Earth.

In this picture of Buzz Aldrin on the moon you can see the flag very clearly. You can see the bar, holding the flag erect, very clearly. The flag only moved when the astronauts were touching it and right after they had touched. It continued to move slightly because of momentum.

In this video, from a remote camera on the LEM, you can see Armstrong and Aldrin taking the flag out and setting it up. Note how ridged it is. The fold it out like an accordion. Also note how it flaps wildly as they try to get the darn thing int the ground. You can see the flag moving slightly, out of momentum, when Aldrin releases it and then it slowly stops as momentum runs out. This video clip stops just when Armstrong takes the picture of Aldrin above.
Oh, and something else you can see in this picture, that you shouldn´t because the conspiracy nuts claim that the absence of them is proof of the landings being fake: stars!

That’s just the millionth time that has been answered.
Why would the astronauts have taken a normal flag that would just hang there limp. What would be the point of that. The flag had a bar holding it out, and it waved when the astronauts shook it.
People who listen to that moon hoax crap, are people who just cannot think for themselves.
Sad that!

The flag on the moon is made of aluminum. Also, If you have video showing the flag blowing back and forth, you can have my left gonad.

Everybody knows that the moon is just a NASA hoax, therefore nobody ever went there. Also, the Earth is flat, and Elvis is alive and working in a donut shop in Cleveland.

I just watched a video of it, it wasn't blowing.
There is gravity there, just less of it, so i do not know why it would not fall, unless they rigged the flag to stand up with wire so the camera could catch the shots.

The flag has a metal frame around it that has a couple of curves in it. The curves make the flag LOOK like it's being blown in a breeze.

For your information, if you weren't around when Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong landed on the moon, it was broadcast live on TV as it happenned...NASA sent a camera with them...Duh...
