Have lived in this same area for 25 years and this event hasn't occurred that I can recall. The new leaves withered on the trees from temperatures in the 20's for almost a week. Will this show up on the tree rings too? I've been told the trees will reproduce new leaves.

I live in Georgia. We had all our tree beautiful and spring was in full Bloom. I went out and got tomato plants and beautiful spring flowers because All the plants say to plant in early march for our area. Well Sad to say almost all are dead. My bushes that all had beautiful flowers (they only flower once a year for a few weeks) Now all the flowers had died and they are looseing leaves.

It happens a lot in many states, though I have don't remember it happening here since I lived here. That is why you have fans and heaters in fruit orchards. Because all too often there is a late freeze and once the Fruit is distroyed you can not get it back. All I know is I can't wait until it is over so I can try to get my garden back in shape. I am really sad. The trees will come back but if they are fruit trees they many not produce as much fruit this season. It kind of puts them in shock.

It has happened here about 2 years out of the last 5. No effect for tree rings. Tree rings are a year long process and with the mild winter we 'mostly' had the tree ring growth should be excellent.

I don't think it would show up in a growth ring. Trees have secondary buds that will emerge. I remember it getting cold in April,1983 here in North Carolina - but not this cold.

It happens almost every year in Maine. I don't think it will affect the tree rings.
