i had no idea that anikin would become dark vader in star wars. my brother, his friends, my grandma, my cousins, and my parents all laughed at me. they all thought i was retarded. was this like a known fact? i mean, even my mom knew it! am i that dumb, or is my family star wars geeks?

Well, if you hadn't seen the original films, you may not have known that, although, I'm kind of shocked you didn't. The fact that Darth Vader used to be Annakin Skywalker was revealed in the 1983 film Return Of The Jedi, which was hugely popular, and still remains so to this day. But, if you're not into Star Wars, then, honestly why would you know that because you probably wouldn't care to know that. Also, I don't know your background or age, but if you weren't even around n 1983, then that would explain a lot too. So, no, you're not retarded.

Uh...I'll be honest, you must have just not been paying any attention.
I wouldn't say they're geeks at all, because if you're going to see she Star Wars movies in the first place, then you've obvsiouly got some interest in them, and if that's so, then you really should have known...
But hey, I'm kind of a nerd, so it's honestly hard for me to gauge. But, you knew the kid's name was Skywalker, and you knew Luke's Dad turned into Vader, so you should have made the connection
If you didn't even know that part, then you've not listened to any single Star Wars reference joke in your life

No that's ok. If you watched the episodes in sequence (and I hope to god that you didn't) there would be no way to really tell. There is some foreshadowing. I think in the scene before he slaughters the sand people you can see Darth Vaders shadow. Otherwise you really wouldn't know if you hadn't seen 4-6

Anakin = Darth Vadar = common knowledge for children of the 60's and 70's at least. My 4 year old knows too. That whole being Luke's father thing is a clue. We forgive you for not knowing.
