Some communities have recycling centers that accept electronic waste. In those cases, your used laptop (which you should "scrub" of content you don't want stolen) will be dismantled safely somewhere. Goodwill Industries accepts used PCs at some locations: http://www.goodwill.org/page/guest/about/howweoperate/donations/tipsfordonatingacomputer - and you know you're helping others. You can also post your laptop for some to get at http://www.freecycle.org - but again, read tips for how to safely donate a computer.

If in Dallas area they will have a day announced on TV and news and paper for a recycle day for electronics and waste such as paint and chemicals, You can also call your city services dept. for days when this service is available.
Some computer manufacturers will accept used computers for recycle even those they do not make, try Dell, Toshiba etc.
If you will E-mail me I will take off your hands as I would like one or more to take apart and learn about internal components.
Hope this helps

You can also look into which company you bought it from. Many have programs.

Also with Earth Day coming up, stores, communities, etc are doing programs for recycling with that. Good timing.
