Highest paying job sites for pharmacy techs? Hospitals? Drugstores?

Hey everyone, thanks for the replies so far! Just to add more info: I'm in the process of doing a pharmacy tech apprenticeship which will be fully sponsored. I figured I should go for it because I am considering earning a PharmD.

So I'm actually not certified yet, but will be, and want to look for the best place to work until I can earn a higher degree.

Try phone-order pharmacies. OMGosh! My friend is now at $15 an hour, and she's been there only 1 1/2 yrs. (We are in AZ).

Also, I would never recommend retail to ANYone!

Good luck!

Here is some data I found: Salary The US Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics includes pharmacy technicians in a group called Pharmacy Technicians and Aides. According to their 2010-11 Occupational Handbook the median annual wage of pharmacy technicians was $27,705 in May 2008. The middle 50% earned between $22,776 and $33,030 and the highest 10% earned more than $39,478. The top 3 pharmacy technician employers are health and personal care stores, hospitals, and general merchandise stores. These different employers offer varying pharmacy technician salaries: health and personal care stores pay an average of $27,910 a year, hospitals pay an average of $33,160 a year, and general merchandise stores pay an average of $26,720 a year. Job Outlook The US Department of Labor estimates the employment of pharmacy technicians to grow 31% through 2018 which is much faster than the average. The healthcare industry is a very stable industry. This is because people will always need to see doctors and take medicine. The increased number of middle-aged and elderly people—who use more prescription drugs than younger people—will spur demand for pharmacy workers throughout the projection period. In addition, as scientific advances lead to new drugs, and as more people obtain prescription drug coverage, pharmacy workers will be needed in growing numbers. Job opportunities are expected to be good, especially for those with previous experience, formal training, or certification.

Sadly, by not being a pharmacy tech anymore.

Try pharmaceutical research - either for pharmaceutical companies or for contract research organizations.
