(I am not referring to the ink catridges)

The k850 has separate ink cartridges and printheads.

You shouldnt replace the printheads unless they are showing print quality degradation and cannot be recovered by the usual cleaning processes.

There is no 'fixed' date for replacing it and HP also does not state that they need to be replaced unless they are showing bad print quality.

The printheads are on the ink cartridges. You replace them with every cartridge. This is true for every HP inkjet printer [that I know of].

EDIT: You got me on that one. I had no idea that HP actually designed one that's SEPARATE. Strange that they don't list the printheads as one of the consumable items. Pick the other guy as the best answer, will ya?

the printheads should be replaced when you notice a degrade in quality. I work with printers all the time and you don't want to be wasting money on printheads when they are still good just because its been 6 months. Just replace them when you start to see that your printouts are not coming out the way that you like them.
