the left low beam headlight on my VW doesn't work. The bulb is ok as well as the fuse. What else can be the problem that I could fix myself?

i switched the bulb and the fuse from right low beam to left low beam headlights. The right one works which means the bulb and the fuse ok, but the left one still does not

If you bench tested the bulb or switched them to test. And your right low beam is working properly you need to check 2 things.

First grab a 12 volt test light and turn on lights. making sure the tester is properly grounded then put on high beams and check the plug on the car. there should be 3 prong hole. 1 of the holes should make the test light come on. if it does the turn on low beams and check the other 2 prongs. If your test light comes on then you have a bad ground. if not you have either a bad switch or bad wire. probably a bad wire. Check the wire's as far as you can. looking for an exposed spot or break in the wire. if you find nothing the u should change the headlight switch. If this doesn't help your last resort is to the it to an automotive electrical shop to find the break in the wire between the switch, firewall or plug.

85% of the time this fails because of the ground.

a slow methodical approach will give you the answer. i would first check for power at the power side of the lights outlet with a multimeter(set on volts), if you have close to battery voltage then check the ground side(ohm meter now) looking for as close to zero as possible, more than likely you will find a little resistance but that is fine, the fun part is if either of these test points do not show what i had mentioned. you have to go up line to where you do get power and or Resistance(depending on what side you are on.) without further information at this point i will stop for now until i get more information from you

If not the bulb or the fuse, then it's probably the switch. How do you know the bulb is OK?

Must be a wiring issue or perhaps the contacts in the lamp receptacle are corroded
