I just got a new battery for my 1974 Honda CB550 four. The instuction seem like rocket science to me. I thought I was going to be able to just throw in the new battery and ride off. Now I have all these complicated steps. Its a 12N9 4B1 battery. The battery acid is seperate in the box. What am I supposed to do? I have never worked with BATTERY ACID before and it freaks me out a little bit. What should I do?

Do I need to charge it? Do I need a motorcycle battery charger? Why is this so complicated?

Thanks,

Ed

Fill the battery to the line on the side with the acid. Let it sit for about an hour. Charge the battery, at 1 amp for 10 hours, or 2 amps for about 4-5 hours. Any 12 Volt charger with a low charge rate will work. After charging, check the level in the battery. Install the battery in the bike. When checking/filling later, use only distilled water to top off.

Batteries have an indefinite shelf life when stored dry.

Just follow the directions. It is really easy.

The battery acid comes in this pouch that gets punctured by the battery when you mate the pouch with the battery. The acide flows into the cells cleanly and safely, usually without incident.

Now there is the chance you will be hit by a football while doing this, so wear eye protection and rubber gloves. Perform the process in a place where battery acid could spill and not harm anything, like a drip pan in your driveway. Don't wear any clothes that you care about. Even a small amount of battery acid will discolor your clothes.

If you can'nt put acid in the Battery you need to not ride without going to a Motorcycle Safety Class and a visit to a Motorclye Shop and find out from a M.M how to do such things.

Sell the motorcycle.
You are too much of a Putz.
If you insist on riding, alter your drivers license so you are a registered organ donor.
I will offer you $200 for your bike.
