Yep, I sure do....no offense meant. I think people were generally smarter in the 1970s to early 1980s. Any more these days, the culture is just *so* ruthless and cutthroat that folks are scared to do or try or even risk *knowing* anything where they aren't going to be "the best" or come in first. And honestly, the Media doesn't help in this regard, it is always sending out the message that "second place is the first *loser*" and things like that that basically have people really terrified and risk-averse.

Not to mention paranoid and too uptight to actually be *themselves*, never mind be anything needed or useful around here: things like leaders, teachers, healers or the kinds of people we *need* to inspire us to reach out, do more for each other and help each other *up* out of misery....

But yeah....I think some of it is the Media here, being so hostile and negative about anyone who isn't a "winner" or a "superstar" (which instantly makes them a loser). And some of it is that the Rat Race is so intense now that people really do feel cornered close to 24/7, just on principle.

And without getting to techincal on the brain's biochemistry of chronic stress here....that sort of thing just isn't *good* if you want people to *be* substantial and deep thinkers. That kind of constant stress almost *forces* people to be shallow, to not learn, and to be almost stereotyped in their behavior because *that* is the lowest-effort route at the moment.

And the worst part of it is? This hits folks, on average, younger and younger....people used to have the option of not dealing with it--by staying blue-collar and not going to college--though now that means *not having work* at all, versus having some between *downsizings* and unjustified firings. Then, as I grew up, it spread downwards from 20-something adults into high-school teenagers....then into middle-school early teens.

Now it starts in *grade school*. O__O That scares me and it should scare you too. At that point, you start losing even the *potential* to Not Be Shallow And Brainwashed, and from there it becomes more and more about *palliatives*, or lessening the pain of a problem that *cannot* be solved now.

But yeah, that's my plug nickel....such as it is. Thanks for your time, this is a good question! ^_^

Yes most people nowadays just follow others around because they are brainwashed by society into being perfect and so they want to be like they think they should look. Nobody does stuff on their own and do what they like but what is acceptable in society which is dumb... Be a nonconformist

There are a few out there, they are simply more comfortable following others, like sheep.
