Aw, Ken... Don't rain on the parade.

You have Red eared Sliders... the most popular turtle sold (even illegally).
Enjoy

Those are red eared sliders, certainly.

Since your mother got them for you without knowing what they are, however, I beg you to read about them to make sure you shouldn't return them ASAP (assuming they weren't infamously bought in Chinatown). Your turtles will grow...quickly. Two will outgrow a 20 gal. tank in about 2 years, for sure. They will get to be the size of shoe boxes in a few more years after that. They need a lot of water, not just wading water, so keeping their habitat clean in such a volume is a big commitment.
I don't understand why somebody would buy an animal without even knowing what it was...it's so sad.

Those are red eared slider turtles. They eat regular turtle food and are fun to play with. Just be careful because just like with handling frogs and fish, they could carry salmonella. Also be prepared to clean the tank once to twice a week.

They are red eared sliders they get big and will need a huge tank, and may start to fight when they get older so you may need to seperate them. You need to get a UVB light, a basking light and a basking spot where they can get out of the water to bask. Check out this website it will tell you all you need to know. If you don't care for these guys properly they will get sick and die so be sure your caring for them properly.

Definately Red-ear Sliders.

For some great care help, try http://www.austinsturtlepage.com and http://www.redearslider.com

You will learn, for example, that these guys like big tanks with plenty of warm, clean water to swim in- like the pponds they live in in the wild.

You'll learn about the right foods, lighting, etc. to keep them healthy and happy- and be able to enjoy them for years!

Good luck!
