I had this problem awhile ago and I took all the time to check it, found a sock right at the bottom of the axle, careful removed it and the machine still working to this day, in your case could also be the belt..☺

depends on the brand.
Maytag brands is one of the most common brands of belt driven washers. on a belt driven one problem could be that the belt has broken, from there it could be the door switch, the timer contact, if the machine is old enough and the machine will not spin out, it could result in a bad motor or transmission.

if it is a Whirlpool/kenmore, most common as a direct drive which works as a motor coupling, or something that directly connects from the transmission to the motor, if the coupling, a very common problem, goes it will not spin, but if you let it run itll drain, you will also hear the motor running, but no action will happen, also it could be very well a door switch, timer contact, that could have faultied, the only true way to figure out what is wrong is to test the parts, if you have mechanic abilities, use and ohms meter or a multimeter to test the parts by using the wireing diagram you can figure out what to test, if not then call your local appliance service technicians.

when you say wont spin out do you mean it wont spin at all....4 possible reasons...if it wont spin at all and quits after wash cycle...1 bad lid switch...2 bad pump.....3 bad belt...4 bad timer....if machine spins but water does not drain ....bad pump.....if machine does not do nothing after wash cycle...bad lid switch=most common problem or bad timer...if belt was bad it would still drain water but would not spin as most all pumps are connected directly to motor..belt only drives tub in spin cycle

The belt could have broke or come off.

If you put too many clothes in it, it won't spin becuase there's too much weight.
Try taking half of them out.
