I'm feeling so depressed. I'm 17 and when I was 14 I was in a car crash and I was told I would never walk again. Because of physio I can walk but i'm still in large amounts of pain.

I use to be really fit and play sports but now I'm in so much pain I cant do what I use to. Walking even hurts.

My physio and doctor told me that I won't make any more improvements and I'm going to have problems with my back and neck for the rest of my life.

This is so depressing for me and I've become so self conscience.

I would love some advice of how I can get healthy and have my old body back again.

First of all, I'm so sorry to hear about your accident, I'm sure it must be hard to not be able to do things you used to enjoy. But the fact that you worked hard enough to learn to walk again shows that you are a very strong person, and coming on here for help is a step forward. Continuing to go to physio would probably help make your body stronger, and they probably have exercises for you to do at home. Im not sure but I think a good activity for you would be swimming. You could do exercises and other things with less impact so you might be in less pain.

I really hope that it works out for you. Just remember to enjoy and be grateful for the life you have.

I am so sorry, Hon, that you have had to deal with so much at such a young age. None of us out here in Yahoo Answerland can probably adequately deal with your pain or your questions so let us at least do our best, OK?

Perhaps by connecting with organizations such as the War Amps you might get some support from people who have gone thru major ordeals such as yours.
If you are affiliated with a certain religion, then certainly ask the congregation to pray for you. If not, then have the hospital chaplain come to visit with you regularly. I am a believer in the power of prayer.
You might also consider getting involved as a volunteer in the children's ward at the hospital. Sometimes you can get motivated by seeing young children and how they push their way thru their own difficulties.
My last suggestion is to rent as many funny movies as you can from the comedy section of your closest video store. Laughter can help a downer mood especially if it's one of those gut hurting , belly laughs.

I wish you well and just know that you can tell these doctors that they are all wrong and you will be back to visit them in 10 years to prove it.

So they told you that you wouldn't walk again? And now you are. Just because they say you won't make any other improvements doesn't mean thats correct. Dr.s are wrong all the time. Keep going strong and keep trying harder and above all, be glad you really are able to walk, even with the pain. I hope your situation becomes easier for you.

There have been a number of inspirational stories, over the years, about young women recovering from serious injury. I regret, I cannot provide you with citations. However, I am sure; you can find the books they have written, or were written about them. Learning about their recovery, may prove to be inspirational.

I sense, you are a young woman of strong character, and unwavering resolve. Your story, could be the next autobiography, of a great recovery.

One last thought, please don't limit yourself to orthodox western medicine, explore your options. The following website: http://highwire.stanford.edu/, is a wealth of medical information.

I have faith in your strength !

Not knowing what your dx is, it's hard to give you any advice. I do have sympathy with the pain however. i am going on 23 and have spondylolisthesis (slipped vertebrea) that started giving me trouble when I was sixteen. I have trouble standing, walking distances, and sometimes sitting because of the pressure on my back.

Never give up hope. Keep trying to get better. Sometimes people get serious injuries and miraculous recoveries occur. Just believe and hope for tomorrow and a miracle may come your way.
