i have just recently set up a 29 gallon fancy goldfish tank. I'm only going to have two. i have two babies, only about 2-2.5 inches long right now. i was wondering how long it will take them to grow bigg and how big will they max out in this size tank?

Thanks

Depending on the type of fancy and what its breed is, chances are the max will be 8-9 inches however more like around 8. This does not include the tail. Fish are never measured for tank or breeding by adding the tail. That is for fishing only.

Your fish will be fine in your new aquarium.

Congrats on choosing fancy goldfish, they are my favorites, and are underappreciated because they are so easy to care for. Fancy Goldfish generally max out at 6-8 inches in an aquarium of any size. Contrary to popular belief, goldfish do not just grow to the size of their tank. they will stop growing eventually, but their insides keep growing, even when the outsides stop, which is a condition called stunting. eventually, they could die of it. in a 29 gallon, your two will probably be fine most all of their lives, so long as you ensure you have adequate filtration and oxigen content. it entirely depends on the fish as to the rate they will grow. if you overfeed, they will grow faster occasionally, but don't do it intentionally. Only feed twice a day and only as much as they'll eat in two to three minutes. Good Luck!

I have had my goldfish for over a year now. They were about 1-3 inches when I got them and and now a year later they are at most they are 3-6 inches. I think you will have a while with your tank!

Did you ever wonder why fish grow bigger in a bigger aquarium? This is because fish waste have a hormone in it that slows the growth rate down. Take out about a fourth of the water out every month. I keep my fish outside every summer in a horse's trough, and they grow faster because of all of the bugs and mosquito larvae that they eat.
Goldfish can live 40 YEARS with the proper care. They can grow about 8 inches to a foot outside, but will probably only get about 6 to 8 inches long in an aquarium, in about 5 years.

they can get about 12 inches +. so they need 2 gallons of water for every inch of their body by the length and with.
