I'm going to have to choose Pather Panchali, Ray's first feature. I only saw it for the first time about ten years ago and it was unlike any other movie I had ever seen. Simply told, it felt as real as life, as if I were there with Apu and his family in a world unlike any I've known, but made as familiar through Ray's film-making as my own family. It let me remember the whole world in a small, intimate vision. Wind, rain, sunlit afternoons, the turning of the earth...
I think it's one of the best films ever made.
