Well man and woman may be friends more if the sex wasn't there to get in the way, but then if everyone stopped having sex then eventually there would be no man or woman to be friends in the first place!!.
So I would say, no sex is not excess baggage, sex is very important and it's good for the soul, there is nothing like making love to help you understand through feeling, what your body is all about, every nerve, every sensation, how could that be excess baggage??????!!
