:) I think both Garrett and Joshua would sound pretty good with the middle name.

My husband also had a family tradition when it comes to naming the "first born son." They alternate the names 'John' and 'Ian' every generation. (so my husband is John, his dad is Ian, his granddad is John, etc) I told my husband that was fine with me, but I wanted to use MY father's middle name for our son as well ...so our son's name is Ian Carle.

It might be hard for you to get used to the idea...but I think family names are really neat :) (and hey...at least it's a middle name!)

Well it seems to be a tradition so there is that to consider. How exactly is it pronounced? First name? I would go with something "normal." I like Ethan and Joshua. That was kind of my rule of thumb for my kids. Different first name get a normal middle name. Normal first name got a different middle name.
