There are many great places to see in both Melbourne and sydney. I'm from sydney so i don't know many sites in melbourne but ill tell you what i know.
Melbourne

If your a nature fan then the melbourne zoo is the place to go(it's australia's oldest zoo) or if your up for a drive Phillip island is great to see penguins in their natural habbitat. If you want souvenirs or just a great day out then Queen victoria market is your place. The melbourn Museum is a fantastic visit, see Australia’s champion horse Phar Lap, the kitchen set from the hit TV soap Neighbours and learn about local Aboriginal history and culture.Or if you want a magnificant view of melbourne from above then the melbourne observation deck is where you want to go.

Canberra

On your journey to sydney make sure you stop in Canberra(the capital city of Australia). Canberra has a many places t visit like the war memorial the parliment house and my favourite the science museum, which is great fun for both kids and adults.

Blue mountains

Just before sydney there is a place called the blue mountains which is just breathtaking. The three sister are also located there and there are plenty of walks to set you of an adventure. The blue mountains also have an almost vertical train that takes you down to the bottom of the valley and a sky rail that can bring you back up.

Sydney

Now in Sydney you have to visit bondi which is home to Sydney's most famous beach. Sydney's tallest building centre point tomwer is a great place to eat out, whatching the world below you while you spin on top of them eating your dinner from above. Ofcourse you have to visit Australias most famour landmarks the sydney opera house and the sydney harbour bridge and if you can you should climb the bridge to get a breathtaking view of sydney.

So a recap

Melbourne zoo
Phillip Island
Melbourn museum
Melbourne observation deck
Canberra: War memorial
Parliment house
Science museum
Blue Mountains
Bondi
Opera house
harbour bridge (and climb)

There are different routes to take between Melbourne and Sydney. In June I would not recommend the Alpine Way. It is a very pretty road but you could get snowed in. I would suggest going up the Hume Highway, which is the main road, but taking a few diversions on the way. The Rutherglen wine area in northern Victoria; the wine and food places around Milawa; drive up the valley to Falls Creek for beautiful scenery on the way and mountains at the end; take time to look at the Murray River at Albury then take a diversion towards the mountains in NSW ending in Cooma then drive to Canberra before heading to Sydney.

You can drive from Melbourne to Sydney in about ten hours but take two or three days over it and enjoy it. The Ned Kelly show in Glenrowan is not worth stopping for. If you want a second opinion on that, read Bill Bryson's "Down Under".

in case you seem at an excellent map you will see a line that runs for the period of basically above the centre of Australia from Rockhampton to western Australias pilbarra area. that's the line of the Tropic of Capricorn and all factors in Australia above that line are interior the tropics. The tropics purely has 2 seasons moist and dry the dry season is between April and September so June July and August are absolutly perfect for being everywhere up North. Brisbane and the Gold Coast are semi tropical . it could get chilly at evening yet in lots of cases effective sunny days around that factor of twelve months. Perth can get chilly in iciness yet no longer freezing Sydney melbourne and Canberra can get bitterly chilly. no longer lots Sydney . June july and August are so perfect for Cairns the great barrier reef The WhitSundays Darwin Broome and all those staggering places up North.
