I think all these kobe haters are plain dumb and stupid...they would die and even kill for Kobe TO BE ON THEIR TEAM...they could bash him as much as they want to but they are only in denial cuz they know HE IS BEST, HE HAS PROVEN HE IS THE BEST, HE HAS SHOW THAT HE CAN PERFORM IN THE CLUTCH AND THAT HE HAS NO WEAKNESS.

Alll this excuses about him not passin hte ball...pleaaaaaaaaaaase...do you watch Laker games? I see that these haters ONLY WATCH HIM IN THE HIGHLIGHT REEL...have you seen the no. of dropped passes per game by Kwame Brown and Andrew Bynum?

The no. of missed layups by Odom in the post after Kobe set him up?
These things happened at least 3 times yesterday against the Suns.

If he had average teammates, he would average about 8 assissts per game.
Last sunday against Sacramento, he scored 19 but had 13 assists. He made plays for them, but the guys juss did their basic job and put the ball in the hoop when they have an open look when Kobe is surrounded by 3 or 4 guys

2007-04-09 13:17:55 · 21 answers · asked by Anonymous in Sports Basketball

The guys that surround kobe other than lamar don't have a high basketball IQ and are not that talented.

Plus Kobe demands a triple team almost every time from opposition, so usually when he kicks the ball out, it usually results in another pass to an open man, since in the triangle offense you have to swing the ball around to get an open look more than times than just a direct pass.

There's more to it in basketball (you dumb haters) than juss passin the ball

TO DUMB KOBE HATERS: BACK THE TALK WITH VALID BASKETBALL ARGUMENTS!!!!

Since the guys were new and were not familiar with the triangle, Kobe had to take voer last year and had to score the points. Its the same this year...guys not executing, going to their spots, making the cuts at the right angle, etc etc.

Other than walton, who else does that consistently???
KOBE THATS RIGHT...he's doin exactly a HALL OF FAME COACH IS TELLIN HIM TO DO...score the ball!

Beast...you make a good point there...I think he should play better defense and block more shots since he goes up against much smaller shooting guards...but he's 6'6 inches not 6'8 like you said, other wise he could play small forward

229 time I have no doubt in my mind that Nash will make Lamar a superstar but seeing the pattern of Nash's teammates, I think he'll make them weaker defensively as well.

Its not about scoring the ball you know.

Plus LAMAR WAS HAVING AN ALL STAR type year before he went down against the rockets. I guarantee you, he would've been a top 5 vote getter in the forwards slot if he had stayed healthy.

They got off to a 26-13 start after all with Lamar having a stellar year, so it wasn't like Kobe had no effect whatsoever on Lamar's game.

As for Kobe averaging 8apg yes, I stick to that statement. In fact, Lakers are one of the upper tier teams in free throws attempted (which resulted from passes set up by Kobe). Have you seen the no. of dropped passes? Tha lakers average about 17 turnovers per game for no reason you know..
Btw kobe attempts less than 9 ft attempts a game so he himself can't skew that team free throw statistic

Pretty Tony I like your answer.

But here is the thing, Shaq plays in the east against mediocre competition...bobcats, knicks (without david lee and crawford), celtics (without pierce, scerbiak and tony allen), pacers (with a lingering jermain o'neal), raptors (who beat them up), wizards (with no butler), etc etc etc.

They made their run at the right time...when everyone else was struggling and the other teams had injured players...Im glad they won those games but they were very unconvicing.

If shaq is so valuable, how come he couldn't bring in any championships in Orlando with the second best SG in the league at that time in Penny Hardaway???

2007-04-09 13:54:27 · update #5

I believe the lakers do have legit post up players in Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum and Kwame brown.

If you remember, lamar had his career playing the PF and scoring in the post when he was with the heat. Yes its not good to have a jump shooter as your first option, its not like the bulls in the 90s had a legit post player?

How did they win with a legit SG in jordan, a SF/PF in Pippen (lamar is similar to him) and a rebounding machine in rodman?

They didn't have any dominating post up playres inside

2007-04-09 13:57:08 · update #6

Plus Jordan has no titles without Scottie Pippen and his record in his first three years in the league without scottie is BELOW .500

eh then why has steve nash, who has achieved everything in the regular season, a basketball player can dream of have no rings to show for it? No excuses for not winning right?

And the fact that you're taking Larry Brown's words is kinda bad...he is not a good coach at all...case in point the great knicks of last year....I do agree lamar is a triple double threat but why didn't he come anything close to averaging that when he was in miami?

2007-04-09 14:42:22 · update #8

And as for your argument that Kobe doesn't make players better

before lamar was injured, how was he averaging a career year?

why is mo evans, brian cook, andrew bynum, smush parker and luke walton having career years?

And if you think these guys are very talented. I beg to disagree. I don't think you watch any laker games as you don't back up your claim that they are very talented with any valid basketball arguments.

whoa talk about hostile answers from kobe haters. its funny how they say the kobe fans get all defensive and say that we complain too much when we just state the facts about kobe. they are the ones who talk a whole lot of smack for no apparent reason! geez!

oh well... at the end of the day, no matter what the critics (especially the haters) say, kobe will still be kobe. this is what happens when you are considered one of the best in the league... all the hate just comes with the territory i guess. kobe is the one people just love to hate. sad but true.

Yeah, he is good, but in 3 yrs he has shown no sign of being able to lead a team to a title. Dude, some guys just make the players around them better. It's funny how ppl were saying that Shaq was lucky b/c he had Wade last yr. However, since Wade has been hurt, and Shaq has been healthy, they've played their best basketball of the season. Also note that Kapono, their best 3P shooter was out for most of those games as well. So they lose their leading scorer, leader in Asts, leader in steals, and leading 3P shooter, yet they play their best basketball of the season.. hmmmmm And the reason is because Shaq makes those around him better. Kobe does not.

Kobe's record as a starter over the last 3 seasons - 110-108. WOW!!!! AMAZING!!!! He's the next Jordan... What a joke that is. Yeah, he can put up points, but as the #1 option on a team he barely plays above .500 ball. And if we're looking at strictly stats, Kevin Garnett is bare none the best basketball player in the NBA. NO PLAYER puts up his stats. Since we don't look at that, he's not and neither is Kobe. Kobe's overrated. If he played in Minnesota the media would portray him in the same way that they do Garnett - a guy who can put up big numbers, but who you can't build a championship around. All Kobe fans - just be glad that he played with Shaq for the yrs that he did. Kobe as a #1 option will not get you a championship. And for future advice. It's very hard to build a team around a jump-shooter. This is b/c missed jump shots lead fast break points. So if you are a jump shooting team (Detroit Pistons), or your top player is a jump shooter, you better have a top 5 defense. Otherwise, wins will be hard to come by.

And about no other player being able to lead them to the playoffs. Sorry my friend. Shaq would lead them to the playoffs and probably out of the first round. Have you seen what the Heat do without him? The answer is nothing. They're not even a playoff team without him. Plus, the Lakers are more talented than most ppl think. All coaches in the NBA would agree that Lamar Odom is one of the most well-rounded players in the NBA. Larry Brown said that himself during the last olympics. He's capable of a triple double on any given night. In fact, he's the only player for the Lakers that has posted a triple double this season. The problem is that Kobe isn't making him any better. Stop making excuses for Basketball players. They're either getting the job done and making the players around them better, or they're not. That's how multi-million dollar business works. Explaining why you're not winning is an excuse.

I personally, do not know what is worst The Kobe Lovers or The haters, but I do know that you kobe fans, have the most ignorant facts, and complain to much!

If he had average teammates, he would average about 8 assissts per game.??? He has better than avg teammates, If Steve Nash was on the team he would turn Lamar into a superstar, and make the rest of the players look better as well, kobe doesnt have the ability to do that(yet)...Im not hating, but really 8 ast a game? LeBron is a much better passer and he doesnt avg that much, Alot of PG are not avg 8 apg.........

I did some further research and these are the only players that avg 8+ apg Steve Nash 11.5, Deron Williams 9.5, Jason Kidd 9.2, Chris Paul 8.7, Baron Davis 8.1...Only 5 players in the NBA, and yes they are all PG.

I'm not a Kobe hater. I'm not a fan, but I will admit he is one of the top 3 players I would want on my team (along w/ Nash and Marion, who I already got!!! Go Suns!) If he played for anyone except the Lakers (not counting the Spurs), I would probably be a huge fan, but I don't usually cheer for historically good teams (I hate the Yankees, Cowboys, and Packers too)

I can't blame Kobe for not passing the rock. Even Nash or Kidd might not pass if they had to play with the rest of that team. Kobe has done an excellent job to set them up into playoff position with the rest of that team.

As for a weakness -- he doesn't block shots, and he's 6'8"... most 6'8" guys can block a little more than him. Not that I can blame him. He's all defensive team on the perimeter, why go inside?

Ok, for the most part, I hate on Kobe Bryant only because he is overhyped. If there wasn;t so much "praising" of him (Like Chris Paul and Dwight), I would cheer for the guy, but the over-hype towards the guy is annoying to the point I hate him. Anyways, looking at the hype, I'm just not seeing what it was all about. Sure, he has been a great player these past years, and arguably one of the bext players today, but to glorify him tot eh point of Best today/Best of All-Time? After watching Game 6 against teh Celtics, I would disagree greatly. I am even willing to say Lebron is better than Kobe after that point. Lebron took the Celtics to Game 7, losing only by 5 points if I remember correctly. The Lakers lost at home, blowing their HUGE lead Game 4, and then going to Boston and letting the Celtics kill them 39 points in a very important Game. Where was Kobe I asked? The "Best" disappeared. After that, Kobe shouldn't be the best now, but ONE of the best instead. So stop the hype of "Kobe is best", or else I'll just prove even more of how he doesn't deserve the BEST title. I know he's a great player, but it stops there.

2016-05-21 02:29:09 · answer #5 · answered by ? 3 · 0 0

I'd like to start by saying I am NOT a Kobe hater. But I've been watching the NBA probably longer than you've been alive (since 1967) so I get kind of perturbed when people look at criticisms of a player and say that I'm hating the player. I have been a Lakers fan since Jerry West was screwed in the MVP voting in 1968 when he took his team to within 3 points of an NBA title. I don't hate Kobe. I also don't think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread either. So OK, by your own admission, basketball arguments.

First off, he has not shown he can perform in the clutch; have you forgotten game 7 in the first round last year when he refused to take a shot? I guess I should say he CAN perform in the clutch - he seems more than willing to take the shot; doesn't mean he makes them.

Second, yes, I watch Laker games. He does pass the ball, but he rarely gives his teammates the ball in a position where they can do something with it. Nash is the master at this - his teammates catch the ball in a place where they can easily catch it and then do something with it (like Amare or Matrix throwing down). Kobe's teammates need to make a great catch in order to give him an assist. A dropped pass means one of two things: either the pass was not where it should have been or the player who receives the pass is so surprised that there even WAS a pass that they fumbled.

Third, he does have better than average teammates. You are saying that Luke Walton has a low basketball IQ? Then how did he lead Arizona to an NCAA title? Pure luck? Smush Parker can fill it up; he's done it everywhere else he's played. And Brian Cook had nothing at all to do with the great Illinois teams; he was just along for the ride with them, right? Kwame Brown is a former #1 overall pick (who admittedly hasn't really panned out). Andrew Bynum does have an excuse being so young. Other players who could really help him this year have been injured.

Fourth, what you said to 229time goes both ways. It's not about scoring the ball you know. Although Kobe believes it is. He shoots too low of a percentage to be taking the number of shots he takes. 45% from the field for someone who "has no weakness" is simply not acceptable. Think about this: if he made one more shot in every 20 attempts, he'd shoot at 50%. After all 1/20 is 5%.

Fifth, yes he needs to play more and better defense; and by defense I do NOT mean more steals and blocked shots. I mean he has to get into better position and take away what his opponent wants to do - THAT'S defense. (A steal is the result of a teammate working hard and a blocked shot is a last resort) He is the team leader and he needs to lead by example. Of course, his "leadership" involves forcing shots while double and triple teamed and letting open teammates believe they are NOT going to receive a pass.

Sixth, whether you want to admit it or not, his off-court behavior is a basketball issue. If off-court issues were not important, then every team in the league would want Ron Artest because everyone is looking for a defensive stopper who can score 15-20. By blaming teammates for losses (I've seen him do it countless times in post-game interviews) and threatening to sue teammates for joking with his wife (as he did with Karl Malone) he creates a tense atmosphere in the locker room and creates animosity that carries over to the court. Also, by settling a rape case out of court (so he doesn't have to accept responsibility for his actions) he's not setting a good example for other teammates to follow. And then to follow up those accusations by flippantly accusing other teammates of exactly the same behavior (he said Shaq did the same thing many times, but it has NEVER been proven) is unconscionable. Attitudes like that break down team trust.

Sixth in answer to your question of Shaq, at the time (his second year in the league - what would have been his senior year at LSU if he had stayed) he was the star and Penny was the guy he carried to the NBA Finals. Penny the 2nd best shooting guard? Maybe in Florida, but not in the league. What did he do after Shaq went to LA? Oh yeah... NOTHING; at best he was "pretty good". Shaq played admirably in the Finals but was outplayed by Hakeem Olajuwon, who was in his prime; the Rockets had a much better team that year and won the championship.

Seventh, Odom is not having a career year. The best year of his career, statistically speaking, was his one year with the Heat (and DWade's rookie year). He averaged more points, about the same rebounds and assists, more steals, more blocks, less fouls and less turnovers than this year. And he upped those numbers in the Heat's playoff run.

You'll probably come up with ways to refute each of the things I've listed here, but all of these items are true. You can check your facts at NBA.com, Wikipedia and Yahoo NBA.

Comparing him to players of the past, I'd say that Kobe is very much like Alex English. Alex was a great player and a great scorer (in fact the top scorer of the 1980's decade and the 11th all time scorer in NBA history), but he couldn't carry a team to a championship. While the Nuggets made the playoffs regularly, they never won a championship with English.

First of all Raja Bell owns Kobe and he knows it. I would take Steve Nash on my team every time instead of Kobe. If Nash were in Kobe's position, the Lakers would be a much better team. Odom would be a superstar and all the other players would be at a much higher level. Kobe is awesome if the game of basketball were 1 on 1. But it's not, Kobe is NOT the next Jordan and is NOT the MVP. Sorry to say, you know it's true.

He doesn't have to average 8 apg...He's a "shooting guard" not a point guard. He is leading the league in scoring over 31 ppg, over 5 rbs/game and over 5 apg. 5 assists is not a ballhog when he is the shooting guard, his job is to score and if he can do it better than anyone else on the team than damnit let him..I think that's what Phil decided this year. It's kinda like the box & 1 defense except this is the new triangle & 1 offense. KOBE for MVP...I don't think anyone else in the league could take his place on this year's Laker team and get them to the playoffs. But of course that's just my opinion. Thx for reading
