I think Imus was forced to apologized because all the hype from the media. Is he racist? I don't know but like most people of his persuasion, I think he was saying what he truly believed, based on the history of race relations in this country. I believe he truly crossed the line as far as his jokes, but because of his ratings and earning potential, he was given a vacation for two weeks. He should have been fired, but because of who he is and he status, he will be allowed to get away with it.

Perhaps I’m not sophisticated enough to understand the nuances of crying (wolf) racist at every turn, but I’m especially befuddled here. Imus’ crass commentary on the Rutgers team was certainly juvenile, but can one even make a straight faced attempt to label it racist when the next comment was that the Tennessee team looked cute? I believe I counted at least 4 of the 5 players on the court for Tennessee (during that infamous clip) were African-American.
In what bizarre world does complimenting one & insulting another person of the same race make one racist? Let me say, I'd agree 100% with this outrage if the Vols team were all/predominantly white, but they're not!
Has Sharpton not used “trailer trash” in comments before about whites? Why is he not made to step down? (Of course, because saying such against Sharpton would be racist!)
I hate Imus, but hate hypocrisy even more.

Sharpton & Jackson think they got over? That's two weeks that Don Imus will have to come up with more ammunition. Wait for it.
I still say it was a setup to hype Sharpton's "going down hill faster than a rollercoaster" ratings. He's been in the gutter so long even John Donald Imus can't pull him out of it.
And did it surprise anyone that Jesse 'baby' Jackson got in on it? Jackson is holding true to form. Any time some place in the country a camera is turned on you can bet Jesse will find a way to jump in front of it.
Waiting for round two!

One will not know if he was sincere until he returns and we see how he treats people in general. He can be pretty cutting. Will he be as popular if he tones it down ? Do a lot of people follow him because of his cutting on people in general? If he was a "new" on air host he would have been fired. He has an established income flow for MSNBC so he was suspended. Depending on how he handles things, returns and how hard Reverend Al pushes will determine if he successfully returns. It is always possible that advertisers will leave Imus which would mean his demise. He should have not made the comments that he made, but then he has made a lot of comments that he should not have made.

If you got it in you it will come out. People who slip up in public talk like that in private! All of them, race creed and color. That's America. So he got 2 weeks off, what did the other guy get. The one talking with Imus on air?
He called them some derogatory stuff too, is he still on the air?

Wow, he called some women "hos", and it makes him a racist because the women were black. I've got news for you, black "musicians" call women "hos" all the time and nobody seems to care.
You have got to love this superficial society we live in where anybody who is not a white male can get offended and pull out their PC card. Its like the boy who cried wolf, nobody gives a **** any more. Al Sharpton has made a fortune off of being a race whore. If the color of a person's skin TRULY did not matter, he wouldnt be making any MONEY, and he isnt going to give up on that gravy train any time soon.
What a joke.

He's just stupid. He should apologize for being stupid.
Sharpton and Jackson are laughing all the way to the bank with their shake down over this.
If anything, Imus should be given a raise for all the coverage his lame show has generated. I'll watch him now on MSNBC just to hear him be socially unacceptable.

Apparently only white people can be racist, if we hold blacks to same standards as whites them we would see alot more blacks being fired/suspended. But justice only works one way. I think Imus should not apologize or be on suspension. What happend to freedom of speech? I guess if your white and male you have no freedom of speech.

I feel his apology was sincere.
He also took full responsibility for his comments and is not running off to REHAB.
I don't feel Reverend Al is sincere at all.
Where are all the protests and firings of black rap artists who call black women "Ho's "and alot worse everyday. Why aren't they demanding they be fired?
I feel the 2 week suspension is punishment enough.
