Depends where you are going. If you are heading for "the City" as Londoners call the financial district, then Gatwick is the better bet. Although further out, there are direct trains from Gatwick to railway stations that are much closer to the city -- ie. Kings Cross Thameslink, Farringdon, Blackfriars. This is NOT the same train as the Gatwick Express to Victoria station. It's a far better bet than slow and crowded Underground from Heathrow. The Heathrow Express comes in at Paddington which is way off on the other side of town.

RE:
Which airport is the closest to London City? Heathrow or Gatwick?
Is there any kind of shuttle transportation between those 2 airports and London? Trains for example? How long does the trip by train/car take to get to town?

yes, as the others have said, London City Airport is the closest ... but it only has a short runway and smaller aircraft use it, usually flights that businessmen use to places in Europe the other airports around London are Gatwick, Luton and Stansted ... like Heathrow they are all outside of London but have a good variety of quick transport links into London so any of them is viable if you're thinking of coming here

Heathrow. You can go by taxi or bus. There are also coaches but you'll have to book them. From Heathrow Airport to London takes less than half an hour. Hope I helped. XD

City airport as mentioned, has a surface train service into London - I think it's called the Dockland's Light Railway (a few years since I've used it).
