Do they really can kill a person?

Yes, they can and have killed people, but it's only when they are in a large group and in a feeding frenzy. Normally they pose no real threat to people and the natives in the piranhas home range swim and bathe in those waters daily. They fear stingrays far, far more than piranha.

Piranha are normally scavenger fish, eating dead or injured fish or animals and rarely attack a healthy specimen.

Piranhas have been known to kill an animal the size of a cow. They school up and attack in a frenzy stripping all the meat off the bones. It takes a large school but does happen.

Myths-

They kill humans? No, but they will attack and can POSSIBLY kill humans, but its unlikely unless the human is a very small, sick, and flailing child or elderly person.

They are vicious? No, they are no different than wolves. They are just underwater and underwater, everything seems more vicious. They are also very shy.

Facts-

They only kill to eat, and take only sick or weak animals from the group. I have seen them single out one feeder fish and go for it, leaving the healthy ones alone.

They are very shy. In the aquarium, they hide when people they dont 'know' walk by.

They do not eat fingers, unless they have not been fed for a very long time and you are being stupid.

I have kept them as pets, and they are great. They do eat a lot of fish, so it gets pretty expensive and dirty, but its still an awesome pet experiance.

Although piranhas can be aggressive, it is only against other small fish, or larger fish that appear to be injured or struggling. Piranhas usually will not attack creatures larger than themselves and contrary to the movies, they are not unstoppable eating machines constantly roaming around looking for unsuspecting swimmers. They just eat when they are hungry.
