My personal choice would be David Bowie even though he was not as popular as others I think his songs are some of the most creative ever. Altough I can't help but like John Lennon to.

Bowie is cool as he is the father of New Wave, but if you admire a headbanger metal type of singer you should look up the lead singer of Soundgarden. Chris Cornell was a hell of a mad man in his concerts back in the late 80s early 90s.

david bowie is more of a techno artist and lennon and the beatles are pop, ... someone said Elvis, he may use the word rock n roll in his songs but we all know he's trying to be jazz/blues... so, i would say the true rock star (even though i'm not a big fan of them) are the "rolling stones" bec. they're still as big now as they were back then!

well, in my own mind it`s nicola sirkis (vocalist/songwriter) from the french rock band indochine...they`ve been around since 1981 & they continue to release great music to this day, but unfortunately they are not well known here because they sing in french...so, in addition, i`ll also say david bowie, because i especially like his work from his "ziggy stardust" phase & he has been an innovator in the music world for many years...
