sorry to say that most of you are wrong...
1.c
2.c

the romans weren't farmers..that is why they almost starved to death and had to rely so heavily on egypt for grain..
if they were farmers..they wouldn't have cow towed to mark anthony and cleopatra..
didn't you all watch " rome"..

most roman citizens weren't soliders...it wasn't requirred of a true citizen..they were actually exempt from serving in the army

working for the government??..the only government they really had was the senate..which consisted of the wealthy noblemen and land owners..which probably numbered 100 or less...hardly a big time employer..

romans were importers..they didn't make or create anything themselves...they had slaves to do all the menial task

so I am going with c.

2. well good roads always help trade...it helps people move faster and feel more safe
if one wants good trade there has to be set standards..for what one lb may be for one culture might be different for another
and one has to use the same money if one wishes to trade

so I will go with c once again..

Another is in service to nobility- to work on an estate. Not all servants were slaves and many made their living. Another is as a scribe. Your second Q is silly- volcanic eruptions don't help trade unless you are an obsidian dealer. And there's another occupation.
