OK, well first of all tetras are not livebearers. Neither of these fish are.

Tetra part first. Tetras as a group are egg scatterers. They breed in groups and scatter eggs on the bottom of the tank and in fine leafed plants. They are generally ravenous egg eaters and care must be taken to not allow them to eat all of the eggs. Often a breeding tank is set up with marbles or a fine plastic mesh covering the bottom that the eggs can fall through, but the adults can't get through. The addition of fine leafed plants encourages breeding. Glow lights will breed in this fashion, but without heavy plant growth. Here's a site that will give you a little more info:

Rainbow fish are a different story. Here's a couple of resources for them:

Yes . some crossbreeding is possible with rainbows and due to that unfortunately most rainbows commonly available are suspect to not being true to species. Please try to avoid cross breeding whenever possible.

Hope that helps

Hi. I know this one. Tetras are live bearers and all you have to do is put them together. Soon you will see lots of pregant tetras. Tetras are very easy to distinguish. Males are much more colorful & usually have nicer fins.
When you start to see the female's belly swell, look for the back of the belly & when you see it turning black, the fry are about to be born.
You should have a nursery net already hanging in the tank. When the females belly looks like it's about to blow, and the black spot is a bit bigger and really black, put the female in the nursery net or she will have the fry & then turn around and eat them. All the other fish in your tank will also. Nursery nets are very cheap & very necessary if you want more tetras. So when the fry are born you need to take the female out of that net immediately. When the fry are big enough you can transfer them to another tank until they can take care of themselves in the main tank. They need to be at least 2 /3rds
the size of the adults. The fry are born ready to eat fish food. If you want them to grow a lot faster, buy some frozen brine shrimp & keep the tank at a steady 78 degrees & the water clean. But when you change the water in any tank of fish, never change the whole tank at once. Just about half at a time or the fish will die of shock or develop diseases such as fin-rot or Ich. Both treatable, but they have to be treated at the onset.
Email me anytime you have questions about your fish. I owned a Tropical Fish store for several years.
Have fun. Lynnda~
