You should feed it as many pelets as it can eat in about 2-5 minutes (mine gobbles up 10 no problem). Fruits are out of the question for them because they're too sweet and acidic which hurts their digestive system and have no nutritional value at all. Veggies, though, are good. Dark veggies like cabbage, romaine lettuce, collard greens, etc. Iceberg lettuce and mustard are out of the picture though because they have no nutrional value and aren't very good for them.

As far as frozen or cooked goes, I've discovered that fresh works best. Thawed out frozen is also good. Cooking the veggies takes out their nutritional value though so I wouldn't recomend that. Frozen and not thawed is harder for them to consume and they will like turn away from it.

I am not sure why people think that pond turtles want to eat fruit, or most veggies- how would they get them in nature?

A good red-ear diet is about 1/2 good pellets, and 1/2 'fish foods' like live or frozen/thawed worms, bugs, shrimp, krill, etc. (Babies especially like krill and blood worms).

A daily serving is about the size of the turtle's head.
