Hers was decorated with the that nasty 70's orange. Ya know?
She also had fake grapes everywhere.

Perhaps your Mum would be better in sheltered accommodation where somebody could keep an eye on her and she wouldn't be lonely. It's not like being put in a nursing home, she would still have her independence. You have to think what is best for your Mum no matter how hard the decision is. Why not have a word with the Housing Officer at the Local Council. If the house is in a bad condition then the Council may make things difficult. Do something before this happens. Good luck.

no theme at all.. menagarie of stuff: had a paddle hanging below the clock.. stating: "If Mama ain't happy..nobody's happy." That was the understatement of all understatements..Everytime I would either try to open or close the fridge..magnets..skittered across the floor... blue tablecloth and green-neon green that is...napkins and holders adorned the table...
and that stupid basket she had hanging from the ceiling that held fruit in it... if I had a quarter for everytime I hit my head on it.. I could tour the carribean for 6 months..

I decorated my mom's kitchen for her when she was in the hospital once. Walls were a seafoam green color, cabinets were white with hunter green trim, and a wallpaper border around the ceiling that was white with hunter green ivy vines. She also had hanging ivy baskets hanging from the entraceway. It was actually very nice looking.

I loved my Mom's kitchen.
In the 1970's she had this red bandana wall paper with a few black wrought iron kitchen utensils hanging on the wall.
The cupboards were the white aluminum ones that were put in the house when it was built in the 1040's.
Top it off with white curtains and it was so cute and homey.
I loved this question that made me think of that house.

My mother originally had cows. Then it went to chili peppers. Then it went to apples. Now, it is a nice and basic kitchen with no discernable theme whatsoever. I think she grew up.

my mother's kitchen is decorated in white baton burge lace curtains, and oak everything, and her theme is really just Good Yankee Candles and lace table cloth. Nice rugs and very cottage looking. Since Dad died, Mom went really delicate. I like her look actually. She has very good taste.

My parents' house had two kitchens - one upstairs, one down (and no, it wasn't a duplex or a rental, just a normal ranch with a finished basement). Here's the kicker - neither one was decorated at all.
