RALEIGH --Elizabeth Edwards says she is scared of the "rabid, rabid Republican" who owns property across the street from her Orange County home -- and she doesn't want her kids going near the gun-toting neighbor.

Edwards, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, particularly recalls the time neighbor Monty Johnson brought out a gun while chasing workers investigating a right of way near his property. The Edwards family has yet to meet Johnson in person.

"I wouldn't be nice to him, anyway," Edwards said in an interview.

Property rights, schmoperty rights! Liberals care little about the rights of people to defend their property with guns.

Unfortunately, our schools have done a great job of educating everyone in this regard (anti-gun, anti-private property rights), so even many of our own Conservatives might not be plugged in to the subtlety of what she was saying.

Personally, I think it just tells us where she stands politically, and I'm happy for her honesty.

Elizabeth Edwards just needs to chill. Lot's of people have guns in their homes to proect themselves. It's only the 2nd Admendment right. The guy said that they were people who didn't havea right ot be on his property. There's 2 sides to every story. Till we hear his side we shouldn't jugde him for being wrong.

She should meet the guy. He might not be so bad. You don't want your neighbors to dislike you personally and he doesn't seem to dislike her.

It's a free country, he can plaster his property with Rudy '08 signs if he wants because it's his property. It just makes her seem like the kinda person who won't want to answer the door if someone with baggy jeans and a doo-rag walked up needing help. So what if he's a Republican, is that a reason to be afraid of him. She's not afraid of cancer but afraid of a "rabid, rabid Republican"

I'm not Republican, but let's be realistic here: thats not why you should be afraid of someone or not speak to them.

He has the right to own a gun, and to use it for personal protection.

BUT, if he goes around waving a gun at everyone....he needs to go to the loony hospital. Edwards has very right to be concerned.

He probably purchased the gun when he found out he had an ambulance-chasing shyster for a neighbor.

What's wrong with thinking a guy who chases utility workers witha gun is a bit nuts? I'm a proud gun owner but my first instinct isn't to shoot electric company personnel!

How does she keep all that extra meat on her bones while being treated for cancer? Must be using a little of Gods favorite smokable remedy to keep up her appetite.

I think they need to move up North preferably Massachusetts. What did they expect in North Carolina? a hippie commune across the road? Sounds to me they aren't reaching out to the voters.

She gains support from the hand wringing, panty wearing wing of her party but will lose support from gun toting, NASCAR Dems.

Kind of a dumb statement on her part. But right now, she gets a pass for just about anything. (including this).
