you need tools as there are guides that need to be removed and replaced they have them because the belts are long and you drive over lots of bumps the vibrations would knock them off

Hopefully your old belt is still on the tractor. If so you will know how to route it. You will probably have to drop the mower deck and possibly remove to get to the belt. Although many you do not have to. I use a floor jack to lift the tractor. You may have to use 2 X 4 between frame and jack to prevent damage to tractor. Locate belt, you will probably have to remove idler pulley and some have belt guides to keep belt from jumping off during operation. You will have to loosen or remove these guides. Make sure you notice routing of belt before removing, (sometimes I make diagram). Remove belt and if you do not have new belt take old one with you to get new one as many times you will get wrong belt, the new belt will normally be a little shorter than the old due to stretching of old belt...Then just do everything in reverse order and you should be throwing grass everywhere in just a few minutes..

put it half way on then crank it over and when it starts it'll twist right on there. just watch your fingers
