Umbrella Decorating Contest?

Question

I'm in an umbrella decorating contest, with little funds, and a spring theme that I have to follow. Any ideas?

My alltime favorite umbrella that I've ever seen had a picture of a sunny and pretty blue sky with a few puffy little white clouds painted on the INSIDE of the umbrella, so you always had a nice day to look at when you used it.

Another one I've seen had the equivalent of "oh, what lousy weather!" written across the outside of it. (It was in another country, so I've translated roughly what it really said.) That one was fun.

For a spring theme, I'd put some pretty flowers on the outside -- either cut from fabric or painted on with good paint. The fabric wouldn't be good in the rain, but the paint would if you got the right kind. You can get that kind from a crafts store -- fabric paint.

You can get great stuff at the dollar store for projects like this.

I love the feather idea above - to make a bird!

Another idea would be to round up some old stuffed animals and glue them to the umbrella, for "raining cats & dogs".

I think it would be hilarious if you tried using mobiles on the spokes of the umbrella, maybe stringing beads for rain, and then silk flowers at the end of the string, and some of the cheap silk flowers come with little beads on the flowers that look like dew.
of course you could go with the obvious and hang slinkys from the spokes, (springs, get it?)

Head to your local dollar store and get some bags of colorful feathers... Turn your umbrella into a bird !!

those are all great ideas. I like the idea of a garden on the inside and clouds on the outside..Maybe glue fake flowers to the inside rim or something crazy and wacky (dollar store flowers are cheap- not cute - but cheap)

I think the contest is for you to come up with an idea. No cheating!
