I am currently working on my PhD in comparative studies and the Middle East is a big talking point in many classes....if you'd like you can contact me via email or on my 360 page and I will try to link you with resources that can help you with your studies. Good luck and have fun .... the most interesting papers are always those written about something the student is really interested in so take your time (but not too long....that's the educator in me speaking) in choosing your topic.

There are soooooooo many topic you can choose. I can't believe Jediknig took up most of the page though. Who wants to read THAT much? Also, I feel compelled to question Malaysni and others as well who assume that the Israeli's are doing something wrong. What is wrong with self defense? When so many want them to no longer exist what should they do-sit back and watch it all happen and do nothing? I don't think so. However as an answer to your ? What about honor killings? In most arab countries they punish women for being raped. They're own fathers and brothers kill them because she shamed the family name. What about how parents teach/encourage their children to be martyers and blow themselves and everyone else up who happens to be near them. What about female circumcision (depending on if this is for college or HS-not appropriate for HS). I hope this helped. Ahh, 1 more idea- At Haddassah Hospital in Israel the Dr.'s and nurses and patients who work/live side by side IN PEACE are all people from BOTH sides ( Israel & Palestine). It may not always be easy and they don't have to agree with each other or even like each other but they are able to put those differences aside for a common cause.

Pointing out how bias in the news can sway public opinion would be an interesting take on the situation.
Media create their own news by asking pole questions that are designed to garner the response they want and then report it as NEWS.
It is easy to do. As an example, few people think Bush is handling the war effort with much skill. You can ask "do you agree with George Bush's handling of the war?" and most will answer no.
Report that the majority disagree with the war effort . Do it nightly for months on end.
Eventually a majority start to think something is wrong with the basic reasons for the war.
It is how a biased news media created dissension without even telling a lie.
They NEVER say how to better reach the objectives necessary for resolution of the Conflict. Just create the negatives.

France and England divided the region up into the countries as they now exist without thought of religious boundaries after the fall of the Ottman Empire at the end of WWI. How has this affected the world today.

Why don't you research the differences between the Shiites and the Sunis and and the other tribes in Iraq and then research how Saddam Hussein managed to keep Iraq together even though he was called the Butcher of Baghdad.

"beginning of the state" : after the Neolithic Period the foundation of the state had been laid at the Near East. Approximately 6000 years ago (BP).
that's a good topic, isn't it?

You could do the effect of israel in the middle east because they have been the centre of about four wars with basically everyone around them or you could try and link the current situation in Iraq to the british occupation after ww1, or you could do the antisemitism (think bath party and the nazis)
