My mother thinks the name sounds a little girly. My husband is latino and I am a mix of (mostly)native american and dutch. I wanted a name that was biblical and common in both the american culture where we live and the mexican culture that is half of our son's heritage and also matches our latino last name.

So - what do you think of the name Gabriel?

Congratulations on your new child!
I love the name Gabriel personally, don't give it a second thought!
It has endless nick-names and is a GREAT mix of both your cultures.
Hope this helps, and best of luck to you all =]

I like Gabriel for a boy. I usually think of it pronounced with a long "a", like Gabe, instead of with an "ah" sound, like Gabby, which does sound more girly. If you want a biblical type name that works both with American and Mexican culture, how about Paul or Paulo? Depending on where you live (I'm in California), Paulo is a common name.
Congrats and good luck.

I LOVE Gabriel as a boy's name! I know two boys named Gabriel, no girls! It is a masculine name.
You could call him "Gabe" is you wanted to.
It is like the angel Gabriel who told Mary she would give birth! He was a boy! I like your biblical/latino thinking for the boy's name. Very cute!!!!

I like it that is my best friends name and he is a guy. He loves his name as well... If you and your husband like then you name your child Gabriel. your parents had there their chance to name a child now its your turn.. you can call him Gabe for short. my friend wont let us call him Gabe because he really likes his name. I never met anyone who was not a little unhappy with their name and he loves it so much... This is yours and your husbands child you name is him what ever you want...

I know a little boy called Gabriel and he is not girlie in any way and his name really suits him. Sometimes he is called Gabe for short which is very macho dont you think?
I think it is a beautiful name and it is your child and if you like it dont compromise for others even your mother. She got to name her children what she wanted and you should feel free to name your children what you want too.
Good luck.

It's a lovely name, really. Gabriel is the masculine form of Gabrielle (or vice versa). Anyway, choose the name that you love the most. :-)

I know of two Gabriels. One of them has gotten a letter about applying to an all girls school, but they both go by Gabe. Tell your mother to butt out - she got to name you - now its your turn.
