1) Don't use alcohol. People say it works, but it actually irritates the gums even more.

2) Try a combo of Baby Oragel and Infant Tylenol.

3) Soak a washcloth in water and put in the fridge for a few hours. Give to your child to chew on.

4) Let him chew on ANYTHING that's okay--for us it was a dog chew toy that we had sanitized.

You can offer him a teething ring thats been in the fridge, or you can rub an ice cube wrapped in a cloth over his gums to numb them and help him feel better. If it's really bad or during the night, you can pick up some baby orajel at walmart or zellers or somewhere and rub that on his gums... it numbs them and helps him feel better too.

Hope that helps!

there are many teething rings on the market...but my favorite things when my kids were that age was
1. wet a clean wash cloth....put it in the freezer until it is frozen...the baby will chew on it
it both numbs the gums that are sore and also helps push the teeth thru quicker....but don't leave the baby alone with it
repeat as needed
2. when they are a little older and teething, you can buy otterpops at grocery stores or walmart...one of the major problems of teething is that babies dehydrate....otter pops both numb the sore area and rehydrates your baby....again don't leave the baby alone with an otter pop

Teething gel, of course just like us some brands may work and some may not, orajel worked for mine.

Infant pain killer, make sure that is all it is and it isn't bundled with cold relief etc. You just need pain killer and I always ask the pharmacist what they recomend and for any other tips, I feel that is a part of their job.

Cold, anything cold, wash clothes, teething rings in the fridge, no ice b/c of choking of course, but cold helps. Try different shapes of teething rings if one isn't working.

Next, we tried the alcohol, just a drop, for a real pain bout, I hated her in pain, and it helped, but I wonder if it was just the strength of that stuff that distracted her from her pain, it is a shock I am sure to a baby to even smell that stuff. It worked, but I still try other things first. (of course first thing I fix myself for a cold is some hot wiskey in hot tea)

Finally, distractions and comfort, you don't want a toddler to think the only pain relief is being hugged, but it does help. And babies are only babies once as all us mothers must face. Distractions- you may need many as attention span is short and there is pain pressing for it.

If you've got whisky or some sort of alcohol, rubbing it on his gums will absolutely do the trick.

NOTE: DO NOT LET THE BABY CONSUME ANY MEASURABLE AMOUNT. YOU ONLY WANT TO RUB IT ON HIS GUMS WITH YOUR FINGER. DO NOT USE RUBBING ALCOHOL.

You can also wet a washcloth and put it in the fridge for a few minutes. Take it out and let him chew on it, the cold will numb the pain and chewing normally helps as well.

Tylenol is great! Also, a cold teething ring, or a cold, wet washcloth to suck on.
