HCG hormone. The nice thing about the blood test is that it is 100% accurate. Over the counter tests aren't 100% accurate and may vary. They also won't take into account if you are taking any hormones to promote pregnancy.

There are hormones produced as early as a few days after conception that will be detected in a blood test.

But, a store-bought home pregnancy test is just as accurate these days! So, why do you need a blood test?

Both blood nand urine tests detect the HCG hormone. It is only produced naturally by a pregnant woman.
